Even before Harris coined the term "meta discourse", it had become a hot topic in discourse analysis, pragmatics and many other research fields. This book is based on a brief review of related literature, the enriched adaptation relevance theory as a framework for the role of Metadiscourse in academic lectures are reviewed and discussed. The study shows that the meta discourse in the academic lecture can be regarded as a positive "discourse builder", rather than a passive "discourse facilitator" ".
