- Meta discourse is often defined as the language we use to tell the reader how to read the content and react and evaluate it. Even before Harris coined the term "meta discourse", it had become a hot topic in discourse analysis, pragmatics and many other research fields. This book is based on a brief review of related literature, the enriched adaptation relevance theory as a framework for the role of Metadiscourse in academic lectures are reviewed and discussed. The study shows that the meta discourse in the academic lecture can be regarded as a positive "discourse builder", rather than a passive "discourse facilitator" ". The significance of this research, it has deepened our understanding of Metadiscourse in academic lectures and the role of the mechanism. At the same time, in addition to the theoretical significance, this study can also provide some useful implications for foreign language teaching practice.
